Look Back Poster
Look Back is a movie based on the one-shot by Tatsuki Fujimoto, also the creator of Chainsaw Man. The story follows Fujino, a child who loves to draw comics for the school newspaper. She is told by everyone how talented she is and loves the attention. She is told that for the following week, another student, Kyomoto will also be drawing a strip for the newspaper, and Fujino is blown away by how great Kyomoto’s art is for someone her age. Not willing to lose to Kyomoto, Fujino decides to improve her art skills through practice, and the story develops from there.
This was a great movie, I loved the representation this movie had about love, ego, passion, jealous, betrayl and grief. It did a wonderful job drawing the viewer in with the characters, and you root for them to succeed.
I would give it a 4/5. Next week’s movie is Drunken Master. I will do the spoiler-ish stuff below the list of movies if you want to read it!

I really thought the story did a great job of representing jealousy at the start of the movie. I remember experiencing the same emotions as Fujino, being faced with someone who is more skilled and deciding what to do next. I loved watching their relationship flourish. I was so locked in that I almost felt the betrayal that Fujino felt when Kyomoto said she was going to art school instead. It was a cute touch to make the covers of Sharkman parodies of the Chainsaw Man covers.
Seeing the alternative timeline when Kyomoto lives was heartbreaking, and the touch of their respective comics crossing those timelines was so nice. It’s an interesting parallel that both of their comics caused the other person to draw more, Kyomoto in her childhood and Fujino in adulthood. What a great movie!
